The Storage Shed Guide

Storage Sheds

Storage sheds are one of those things no one seems to be able to do without. Not that choosing one is an easy matter. There are so many different uses for a storage shed. Rubbermaid storage sheds are almost a household name, and for a good reason. They are a major manufacturer of all types of sheds and would be a great place to start. They have two excellent models which are very popular at the moment – the Rubbermaid horizontal storage shed which is ideal for not so tall spaces such as basements, and the Rubbermaid vertical storage shed which is perfect if you need something with a small footprint. Either one of these two could give you all the storage space you need.

If you’re looking for something a bit more reasonably priced and you are handy with a screwdriver, you might want to consider a storage shed kit. These are great for anyone that can manage self assembly furniture and are just as functional as ready assembled sheds. Alternatively, you might even want to build your own using a set of garden shed plans. It’s not as difficult as it sounds as much of the timber and other materials can be bought ready cut to size.

Storage sheds come in a variety of materials, and deciding on the best one for you will depend on what you want to use it for, and probably where you are going to keep it. For example, you can buy a vinyl storage shed which is hard wearing and weather resistant, and will also completely prevent rot and damp. On the other hand, a metal storage shed is about as secure as you can get, short of building one out of bricks.

Another great shed from Rubbermaid is their slide lid storage shed. This is an innovation in storage, and is probably the easiest shed to gain access to, especially if your space is limited. They are ideal for a backyard or even inside a garage or utility room.

Also, it’s likely that sooner or later you will end up wanting to fit a few accessories to your shed. Apart from shelves, one thing that you might want to fit inside your shed is some form of lighting. With the increase in awareness of green living and energy conservation, a solar shed light would be a great idea.

Let’s not forget the traditional garden shed either, although the wooden sheds tend to be for the more established gardens. They do take a fair bit of looking after, and you will need to paint or treat them regularly, but they are unmatched for their appearance. There is nothing quite like an old fashioned ornate wooden garden shed to add a bit of character to your home.
